Nunzio Ghiraldi il Gruccione

   THE FAMILY

The decision to become a wine producer came out of my desire to follow my natural instincts: to live in the countryside and cultivate the land. The fact that I have been able to realise all of this is due in part to the fortunate business intuition of my paternal grandfather Nunzio, who in around 1900 acquired the S. Onorata farm in the region of Sirmione, and also to the vocation passed down to me from my maternal grandfather Aldo, who was for generations a farmer in the Cremona area, where I was born. After I graduated in Law, I should have followed in the footsteps of my father Francesco, as a lawyer, but my passion for the vines became a passion to make it my profession. The challenge was thrilling: the existing farmhouse, which dates back to 1600, became the winery, while carefully keeping the architectural shape and the essence of the building. All the winemaking equipment was designed specifically for the site, the insulated temperature-controlled stainless steel storage tanks were built on the spot to make the most of the height of the building. The magic of the place has been retained and today the ancient and the modern live together in harmony.
