   WHAT PEOPLE SAY

The Gruccione is gloriously refreshing, like diving into the cold waters of Sardinia on a scorching hot summer’s day.
Luigi Veronelli Ex Vinis N. 42 sePt. 1998.

The 1999 Gruccione ...... when it appeared on the table it was such a surprise. There was nothing else that would suit every course, there was no other soft, elegant, full-bodied wine, with strikingly imposing acidity..... but strong emotions develop with the years – and here is this GRUCCIONE with its golden yellow tones, nuances of banana, pineapple and almond too, accompanied by pleasing mineral notes. It is open, sapid and harmonious on the palate. To sum up, a marvel, especially after five years.
La Stampa –Saturday 4/4/2004, first day of Vinitaly Paolo Massobrio

It is a wine that one can easily place among the finest in the world.
Giuseppe Vaccarini, Italian and World president of sommeliers Nov. 2000 no. 55 Ex Vinis - Veronelli

......... One Lugana in particular, the GRUCCIONE, exuded wonderfully seductive fruitiness, aromas of fresh spring shoots like the distant fragrance of young chervil leaves. Dry and sticky at the same time: “an extremely pleasant bombardment of supple sap...”
- La Regione Ticinese 10.11.01 GRIMOD

In autumn 2004 Massobrio and Gatti from the prestigious Papillon guide placed Lugana superiore GRUCCIONE among the hundred best Italian wines. It is the only Lugana to appear in the 'Top 100' and the prize was awarded in Milan on 12.11.2004, at the “Expo dei Sapori”.
La Provincia sunday16/01/2005 Vittoriano Zanolli

There is a new label in Lugana, the GRUCCIONE wine with its extraordinary aromas and notes, a knock-out DOC.
– Lombardia a Tavola July/August 1999 no. 88 Roberto Vitali

What a 'white lord’ on the shores of Garda. Amongst the wine revelations, the Lugana Superiore '1999 GRUCCIONE from Nunzio Ghiraldi truly stands out.
– Il Giorno Friday 12/11/2004 Marco Gatti.

....... bright golden yellow with greenish highlights, slightly acidic, rather rich ...
- De Gustibus May 1999 Francesco Arrigoni

.......... If I wanted to sell wines to the English-speaking world, I think that this Lugana Superiore –GRUCCIONE – from Nunzio Ghiraldi would probably end up in the catalogue, for it seems as if it was almost made for American, English and German palates. It has the woody quality that so many modern international wines have but the aromas are not at all invading, playing on soft hints of fruits and flowers, which together revolve around a citrus nuance. On the table it is well adapted to everyday cuisine, the bottle with its export shape, and typical collar of Californian wineries.
- From “Rubrica di Enogastronomia” Angelo Peretti fiduciary of “Slow Food” for il Garda Veronese

At Sirmione sul Garda to discover pedigree wines, Luigi Veronelli says “The Gruccione is an "cru d’excellence" from which I expect complex results that are capable of long and thoughtful provocations”
- Luigi Veronelli Corriere della Sera 17/06/2001

The "late harvest" Gruccione is a sweet wine produced by Nunzio Ghiraldi, using a local Lugana Trebbiano grape from a strip of clayey land, which can only produce sparse, suffering and not very hardy bunches. Harvested towards the second half of October when they are over-ripe, they are left to slowly wither and are trodden the following February after the a period of rest on the estate of Nunzio Ghiraldi. This dessert wine is sensual, with a golden colour that becomes warmer and warmer, until it reaches amber, with age. Trust in time. There are notes of fresh almond, mushrooms, honey, plum jam and vanilla. The flavour is sweet, held by an optimum level of acidity. The after-taste is impressively long-lasting and remains present and distinguishable for some time.
